They hit full power in milliseconds. It’s a huge advantage. You can tweak the heat on the fly based on how fast your conveyor is moving or how thick the glass is. Plus, since these lamps pack a ton of power into a small space, you don’t need a giant, clunky oven slowing down your entire workflow.
The Nitty-Gritty of Heat
We use quartz envelopes to handle the intense heat. The real magic, though, is how the energy moves. Instead of wasting time heating up the air around the glass, the radiation sinks right into the material. It’s direct and efficient. One thing to watch out for: your power grid. You’ve got to match your lamp length and voltage perfectly. If you don’t, you’ll deal with voltage drops across your line. And if you’re running a high-wattage setup, make sure your wiring and contactors can handle that initial surge when you flip the switch.
The Trade-offs
Now, this kind of power is aggressive. Because the heat hits so fast, it’s easy to accidentally create “hot spots” if your lamps aren’t aimed just right. You’ll want a solid PID controller and sensors placed exactly where they need to be so you don’t overshoot your target temperature. And a quick tip: don’t neglect your cooling system. These lamps put off a lot of ambient heat. If you don’t vent it, you’ll end up baking your electronics and frying your lamp sockets. Not a great way to start the day.
