Anyone can sell you a heating element. But getting that element to actually behave in a high-speed production line? That’s where things usually fall apart. We don’t just put lamps in a box and ship them. We want to figure out why your beads are coming out with stress fractures or weird shapes. Because usually, it’s not the lamp—it’s the profile.
The Heat Struggle
Annealing is all about the ramp-down. You have to let the glass cool just right to get rid of internal stress. If your wattage is too low, the beads end up brittle. Too high, and they start to deform. It’s a tightrope walk. We figure out the heater specs based on exactly how much glass is moving through your line. A high-wattage quartz tube is great because the IR hits the core of the bead, but that puts a ton of pressure on your reflectors. If those reflectors are pitted or oxidized, you’re basically throwing 30% of your power into the air.
The Nitty-Gritty on Hardware
We use heavy-wall quartz envelopes. Why? Because they can take the hit of rapid heating and cooling without cracking. The filaments are calibrated for specific voltage drops so they don’t burn out the second things get intense. We stick with R7s or Sk15 connectors. They lock in tight. You don’t want something vibrating loose while the plant is humming along. One big tip: watch your voltage. It’s tempting to run a lamp a bit over its rating to get more heat today. Don’t do it. You’ll kill the life of that filament by half. We’ll help you find that sweet spot where you get the heat you need without burning through your budget in replacements.
Why a Catalog Isn’t Enough
A PDF brochure can’t tell you if your heater is placed in a way that creates cold spots in your tunnel. We’d rather look at your actual setup. We want to see the airflow, how far the lamp sits from the glass, and how the control loop is wired. Real annealing is about the gradient—the way the temperature shifts—not just hitting a peak number. Plus, if your cooling system isn’t ready for the heat a high-density heater kicks out, you’re going to be tripping breakers halfway through your shift. That’s a headache nobody needs.
