Nobody likes stepping out of a hot shower only to be greeted by a foggy mirror. It’s a pain. That’s where infrared (IR) heaters come in. Instead of trying to heat up the whole room—which takes forever—these heaters send warmth straight to the glass and your skin. We spend a lot of time figuring out how to make that raw heat play nice with the smart tech you already have in your house.
Heat that happens now
When it’s freezing outside, you don’t want to wait ten minutes for your mirror to clear. You want it done in seconds. To make that happen, we use short-wave infrared emitters. The cool thing about these is that they don’t have a lot of “thermal mass.” In plain English? They don’t have to warm up a big, heavy metal box before they start working. The second you trigger the system from your phone or hub, the filament hits its peak temperature almost instantly. We also make sure the wiring can handle that initial burst of power so you don’t end up tripping a breaker the moment you wake up.
Getting it to talk to your home
Connecting a heater to your smart home isn’t just about slapping a Wi-Fi switch on a wire. It’s more like a conversation between the sensors and the power source. We usually stick with Zigbee or Matter because they just work. You can set it up however you like. Maybe you want a motion sensor to kick things in when you walk in, or maybe you want the mirror warm and clear the moment your “wake up” routine starts at 7:00 AM. Plus, the system can actually “feel” the room. If the humidity hits a certain point where the glass is likely to fog up, the controller just handles it for you. You don’t even have to think about it.
The tricky part (The Engineering)
Here’s the thing: high-wattage heaters are great for speed, but they can get too hot. If you cram too much power into a small mirror, you risk melting the adhesive or ruining the mirror backing. It’s a delicate balance. To stop the glass from cracking or the filament from burning out, we use something called a PWM controller. Think of it like a dimmer switch that automatically throttles the power once the mirror hits the perfect temperature. It keeps things safe, steady, and efficient.
